Richard Chace, M.D. founded Eyesight in Portsmouth, N.H. in 1983. Since that time he has been instrumental in growing the practice to meet the eye care needs of over 100,000 patients in more than 50 communities in New Hampshire, southern Maine and northern Massachusetts.

Dr. Peters is a fellowship trained cornea specialist and one of the most experienced LASIK surgeons in New England, having performed over 12,000 LASIK procedures. Because of his broad experience, Dr. Peters has been selected to be a clinical trainer and proctor for other refractive surgeons, nationwide. Dr. Peters also specializes in premium cataract surgery and performed the first Crystalens implant in the state of New Hampshire.

Dr. Peters was born in St. Louis, Missouri. He graduated with honors from the University of California at Davis, and graduated from Baylor College of Medicine in 1995. His extensive post-graduate training includes an internship at the University of Hawaii and residency training at the University of California at Irvine. Dr. Peters also trained at the renowned Gimbel Eye Centre in Calgary, Alberta, completing his fellowship in Refractive and Anterior Segment Surgery.

Having published multiple articles in peer-reviewed journals, Dr. Peters has also authored and/or edited multiple textbooks on LASIK and wavefront LASIK technology.

Dr. Peters continues to teach and lecture for other eye surgeons at the annual National Meetings.

Dr. Kavanagh is a fellowship trained specialist in Oculoplastic Surgery. She enjoys the diversity of her subspecialty which includes cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the eyelids, eyebrows, and midface, as well as treatment of tearing problems, thyroid disease, eyelid and orbital tumors and facial trauma.

Since completion of Ophthalmology training in 2005, she was accepted to one of the few fellowships recognized by the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive surgery. This organization recognizes less than 15 physicians nationwide each year for training in this highly specialized field. She spent an additional two years training as a specialist in Oculoplastic Surgery, and during this time period, she participated in over 3000 procedures.

She has published numerous articles and contributed to a number of chapters in ophthalmic textbooks. She was previously on faculty at Ohio State University and UCSF where she was nominated for several teaching awards and received the Kimura Award for excellence in resident teaching.

Dr. McLaughlin is originally from Ohio, having moved to NH as a teen. After completing optometry school, she practiced in Dover, Delaware for 8 years. She joined Eyesight in 1999.

Dr. McLaughlin currently lives in Newmarket with her daughter. She enjoys hiking, reading, traveling, camping and skiing in her leisure time.

Dr. Christopher Turner joined Eyesight in 2004. In addition to primary care optometry, Dr. Turner provides pre- and post-operative care for refractive surgery. He also provides eye exams to nursing home residents and performs low-vision care for the visually impaired.

Dr. Turner and wife Jeanine, also a practicing optometrist reside in Exeter, NH with their two children.

Dr. Lauren McLoughlin grew up in Brooklyn, NY and graduated from Brooklyn College in 1992 magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree. After graduating from SUNY College of Optometry in 1997, Dr. McLoughlin completed her residency in ocular disease and primary care at the VA Medical Center in Wilmington, Delaware in 1998.

In addition to her training and experience in pre-operative and post-operative LASIK care, Dr. McLoughlin has practiced in a variety of optometric and ophthalmologic settings and has owned two optometric practices in New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

Dr. McLoughlin lives in Durham, NH with her husband and two children.

Janet Rand, O.D. joined Eyesight in May, 2005.

Dr. Janet Rand graduated as the valedictorian from the New England College of Optometry in 1998. She then completed a cornea/cataract lens residency in 1999 where she did rotations at the Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary, Boston Foundation for Sight and Cornea Consultants.

Dr. Rand practiced at a cornea specialty practice in Boston for 6 years before joining Eyesight. She enjoys her specialty in contact lenses-including cornea and external disease as well as complicated contact lens fits. Dr. Rand takes a holistic approach in the prevention of eye disease, and is devoted to finding the vision correction option that best fits each individual lifestyle.

Dr. Rand resides in Massachusetts with her two children and two black labs. In her leisure time she enjoys windsurfing and hiking.

After initially practicing Optometry in Cohasset, MA, Dr. Thompson joined the United States Army in 1977 and practiced as an Army Optometrist for 29 years. During his military service, he provided eye care to deploying service members and their families at nine Army bases, including several overseas assignments in Belgium, Heidelberg, Germany, Vicenza, Italy, and Camp Zama, Japan. He retired from the Army in 2005, holding the rank of Colonel. He briefly practiced Optometry in Newington, NH, before joining the Eyesight staff in 2007.

Dr. Thompson currently resides in Newington, NH, with his wife. Besides traveling extensively throughout Europe, he likes to scuba dive, cross-country ski, and golf.
