Eyesight Ophthalmic Services and Clear Advantage Vision Correction Center have been in the forefront of vision correction for over 20 years now. We offer unmatched experience utilizing the best available technology in cataract surgery, including the latest in intraocular lenses (IOLs) that will work best for your vision correction needs. Today's procedures offer shorter recovery times, are virtually painless, and the improvement in your vision will be almost immediate.
The types of lenses available today are so advanced that they are even attracting those individuals who don't have cataracts, but want to decrease their dependence on glasses for all ranges, such as distance, intermediate, and near. This can often eliminate the need for glasses and, even, bifocals.
The doctors at Eyesight Ophthalmic Services were the first in Northern New England to offer the FDA approved Crystalens®, a revolutionary accommodating IOL that corrects Hyperopia & Myopia.
Crystalens – Crystalens is a specially formulated silicone replacement lens that works naturally with your eye muscles and is designed to allow the lens to move, or accommodate to focus seamlessly on objects near, far, and all distances in-between. We can implant this lens on patients with or without cataracts, and on patients over 50 years of age who desire uncorrected near, intermediate, and distance vision. Crystalens is the only FDA approved accommodating lens for cataracts and/or patients with multiple visual deficiencies.
The Crystalens is designed to mimic the eyes’ natural process of accommodation. Near and intermediate vision result from the action of the focusing muscle in the eye, called the ciliary muscle. This muscle changes the power and, thus, the focus of the natural lens. This enables the eye to automatically focus to provide distance, intermediate, and near vision. As we age, the natural lens hardens and cannot bend to allow this range of vision. If the lens becomes "cloudy," in addition to hardening, then the patient not only has presbyopia, (an age-related vision condition) but also has cataracts. The Crystalens is the only lens implant that has flexible hinges that allow it to bend with the ciliary muscle to imitate the way a patient's natural lens used to bend when they were younger.
An FDA Clinical Study shows the stunning results with Crystalens and its treatment of presbyopia:

All without glasses or contact lenses!
The Crystalens Procedure (without Cataracts) – In the Crystalens procedure, the surgeon replaces the human crystalline lens with the Crystalens accommodating intraocular lens implant. This surgery is similar to basic cataract surgery (cataracts are part of the natural aging process and generally require surgical removal after the age of 60). In addition to patients with cataracts seeking an upgrade from the basic lens replacement, the Crystalens Hyperopia & Myopia can also be performed on patients over 50 who do not yet have cataracts, but desire the possibility of clear, seamless vision at all distances.
After the Crystalens procedure, patients will not require cataract surgery in the future and will be able to focus seamlessly near, far, and in-between, the way the eye's natural lens did when we were young. We can correct distance vision and also restore near and intermediate vision to the way nature intended, reducing and often eliminating the need for glasses or contact lenses. This is the most complete answer for presbyopia.
Crystalens and Cataract Surgery – The Crystalens IOL can also be used in conjunction with cataract surgery. Cataracts are patches that form in the eye’s crystalline (natural) lens, and are caused by changes in water and proteins that make up the lens. Over time, cataracts cloud the lens and keep light from reaching the retina, creating impaired and blurred vision. The only treatment that removes cataracts is cataract surgery, which involves removing the natural lens of the eye and replacing it with an intraocular lens (IOL). Crystalens is used to treat cataract patients and/or patients with multiple visual deficiencies. Crystalens will remain in the eye for life and will need no particular care. It will simply be a part of your eye.
